Today I found out that Jessica Lyon did upload a Firestorm Preview on YouTube. Take a look here:
Linden Lab did publish the latest Second Life Economy Statistics for Q4 2010.
2010 ended on a positive note for the Second Life economy, with several key measures growing while others remained stable as compared to Q3 numbers.
Total money supply, LindeX volume, and web merchandise sales volume were all up between 6% and 8%, indicating growth in economic activity. Also, the L$ rebounded strongly from Q3, appreciating 3.7% quarter to quarter.
When comparing 2009 to 2010 measures, average monthly repeat log-ins were up 8%, average monthly economic participants were up 4.3%, annual web merchandise sales volume was up 104%, and the world size grew by 5.8%.
See all the graphs here.
We all did learn Second Life is a very nice platform for creativity but also for drama. The latest drama is something like a Virtual-Animal-Lawsuit-War. Lol.
Seriously.. I talk about this case here: In Virtual Animal Copyright Suit, Judge Grants Injunction Against Ozimals’ DMCA Notices (But Horse Breeders Still Not Immune From Protest).
Im just schocked how crazy peoples can get in Second Life. I really understand that a copyright infringement is a serious subject and thats also why I do understand lawsuits about that topic. But if peoples start a lawsuit just because they want to claim rights on an idea, then I stop understanding all this. Some peoples really try to copyright an concept and not an object.
Who did create the first tipjar in SL? Imagine you build tipjars as well and he copyright the idea of that concept behind. Imagine you build a total differend tipjar then he did but he fills a lawsuit agains you. Isnt that crazy? I think this case is similar to the Horse and Bunny war we actually see. I think these products are differend.. they are just based on a similar idea, concept or mechanic (code). Is this really a copyright infrigment if you have a similar idea but if you impliment or design it differend then the competition did? Is that a lawsuit worse?
I say “No!”.
As I said… the whole world wide web is creative but sometimes a place for real drama as well. Its a joke.. Its a complete joke or so. Its a new world full of peoples who want to claim rights on the air you breathe. As I said I do understand that we have intellectual property rights and so. But in this case here it goes again too far.
I just can hope that the lawyers understand what they are talking about.. “Virtual Animals? Breeding? WTF is that?”.
Today I did publish The SL Daily Ledger .
So there you will find some top Storys about Second Life which are collected via my favorite Peoples on Twitter.
Sometimes it is just funny to see what peoples type into google. Today I checked out with what kind of search terms, peoples found my blog. One search term I had to think about..
Some one asked Google for “games that use phoenix viewer”.
Hmm. Let me think for a while.
I mean I wouldn´t have any problem if I could use Phoenix Viewer with World of Warcraft. Really! Imagine I could build all those raid dungeons or buildings there. Imagine I could change that damn World of Warcraft World to my needs. Wouldn´t be that cool?
However.. I dont want to be unfair. For all peoples who came to my blog to find out what kind of games you can play with Phoenix Viewer.. The real answer is “Second Life” even if I am still not sure if “Second Life” is a game.
I hope I could help out at this point.
But if you are blogger.. I would be happy if you share you funniest search terms of peoples who found your blog. What kind of funny stuff do you find in your dashboard?
Today I did browse the SL Marketplace Featured Items and found something really funny.
For you males there is a Skin which is inspired by the Dr.House MD TV show.
I really had to laugh coz I found it funny and I am sure I would buy this skin if I would be male.
You can find this Skin here on the Marketplace:
The seller is Naj Potez with the Store NAJ shop
I did read in the product description that you wil get:
- The Skin
- The Shape
- And for sure his animated walking stick
You´ll get it for 890L$ on the SL Marketplace.
I thought this funny and cool product is a blogpost worse.
As a female I feel sympathy for all the males outthere who are searching for Male Fashion in Second Life. I can remember a chat with a friend how was swearing that he just cant find male fashion. I told him there is much male fashion but peoples most likeley blog , collect and share infos about female fashion. However I did understand his problem. I think male fashion is really more rare and there are not much websites which share the latest male fashion news.
As I said I feel sympathy for you males out there but today I found a new blog which could help you. Its a male fashion blog and maybe you should take a look there.
Here it is:
Ok short story here. Today I did install the Mesh Import Project Viewer. Just wanted to check out the Mesh Beta Grid. I thought I play with my own Cinema 4d meshes and import them to the Beta Grid.
I did install the Viewer and I must say after all that I still have to fight with the usability of Viewer 2.x.
If I am true.. I really cant work with this piece of Software, lol. This Viewer is driving me crazy. A real hell.
I better wait until mesh is out of beta and until TPV´s support it as well.
For me it is no fun to work with Viewer 2.x generation. I just can hope that Phoenix Viewer will support it as well, soon as possible after Mesh is out of the beta.
Found a Comment of Torley Linden on the Second Life Blogs:
Torley Linden said:…
Oh geez, you should’ve seen the internal email I just sent about how difficult it has been for me to search for stuff in Viewer 2.x.
Every time I’ve wrestled repeatedly with something in V2 — wondering if intuition from experience was right — I’ve reached out to Residents, and found I was far from alone. While I don’t directly work on product design, I continually advocate for Resi voices who feel they’re being ignored, and while it’s been a long road making V2 reach “feature parity”, as you allude to, it’s healthy to have the choice of using 1.23.
I like Viewer 2.4 a lot better than 2.0, that’s for sure, but there are numerous things I struggle with daily, and I always channel what Residents feel to other Lindens. (Discussions on such topics are best done with specific details, but that’s beyond the scope of this quicktip.)

So its great to see that we Users are not the only ones who wish improvements!
Since December, I didnt use Second Life much.
Im really not sure why.. I guess one big reason was World of Warcraft Cataclysm. I played that game much last few month.. yes so much that I need a brake there too.
But actualy I found another cool hobby. My stepfather and my uncle did explain me some stuff about fishkeeping… yea and they did show me fish tanks. Im not sure here.. I´ve got the offer from my uncle to take his empty 60 liters fish tank because he didnt need that one anymore as he own a bigger fishtank.
So if you ask me.. Few month ago I wouldn´t believe you, if you had told me that I soon will like this hobby. But today? Well I am inlove with this hobby now. I did put away my 60 Liter beginner fish tank and bought a new one with 200 Liters. I settled over all my fished after planting the fish tank.
I couldnt even believe that this hobby can get so expansive. I mean the fish tank wasnt cheap.. but plants, fishes and equipment.. that was not a small amount of money I did spend. Apart from that fact I did realize that this hobby is pretty funny and thats why it is time consuming.
Ok but seriosly I do not sit there the whole day infront of my fish tank. Thats not the only reason why I still not log in often to Second Life.
Dunno, I just spend some more time in real life now. But that doesnt mean that I never come back to SL. Its just that I need a brake from time to time.
At the moment I only log in to manage my SL Marketplace Products and so. But as I said.. its pretty sure that I will be back to SL.
So whats happened last few month? Anything I should know? What about mesh support? I did read it is in beta.. any idea when it comes to the main grid? What else happened?
