Just Another Boring Blog About Different Subjects

SL Marketplace, do we need to do the math of "Sales History" in the future?

If you are merchant you know it was easy to get the value of xstreet sales you had in a exact time range.. How I said.. when you did use xstreet.

Under “My Marketplace” we just had to click “Today´s Sales” and then we´ve got a Sales History where we could find everything we want to know. Monthly earnings… weekly earnings.. maybe a whole year? Indeed all was possible so no more math needed. Just copy and paste the values to our Calculation Software (OpenOffice or Excel) and thats what was ok. Pretty simple but enough to monitor the income we have.

Now for sure I asked my self how it will be with the new Marketplace instead of Xstreet. Checked out the new Second Life Marketplace Beta to see if I can find anything. Under “Merchant home” I found a Link called “Reports” and “Product Sales” on the left side. Clicked it and was shocked how simple this report is. Didnt see much more then a list which tells me how much visits and sales differend of my objects had. Ok so far.. but.. I did see more numbers on the buttom which I could use to browse all my objects… yea to get all the info about my other product visits and sales. And here is my problem. Should I now browse all pages and then do the math by my own to get the amount I´ve sold? And how about time range? I couldnt see the complete addition of all sales.. I also couldnt find anything which let me define a time range. This cant be true and I hope it is because it is still in a beta.

This is not complexy and there must be more.. I hope there will be more. Im not happy with a simple list of my product sales. I need to define the time of sales.. I need to have the possibility to setup more then this. And I defenetly wont browse 10 Pages of over 100 Items and do the math by my own.

This cant be all. And please lets all hope we get more then this after the beta.

Emerald Viewer.. denial-of-service attack? WTF?

Got this email right now…

Dear Second Life Resident,

Late last week, we discovered a denial-of-service attack that was being served through the widely distributed Emerald third-party viewer. This is in direct violation of our third-party viewer policy (part 2, section d, paragraph iii).

We have removed Emerald from the list of third-party viewers, and are now in touch with the Emerald team to discuss what can happen next. We did this to do our best to protect the safety and security of Second Life users. We will not tolerate a viewer that includes malicious code, nor will we tolerate development teams with a history of violating users’ trust or disrupting their lives.

We take privacy, safety, and security very seriously, and we will act to the best of our abilities to protect it. We have not yet disabled logins via the Emerald viewer, but will do so if we feel the software and the team behind it is not able to meet the standards we’ve set. While Emerald is currently the focus of our attention because of what happened recently, all third-party viewers are held to the same standard, and must comply with the third-party viewer policy. If you have been using the Emerald viewer, for now we would encourage you to consider either one of the Linden Lab viewers, or an alternative third-party viewer.

denial-of-service attack that was being served through the widely distributed Emerald third-party viewer? Emerald?

Im not sure why I cant believe this.. but it seems I have to.

I hope all will be ok soon.. If they shut down Emerald Viewer.. what should I use then to login Second Life? Oh my GOD! Horror-Scenario..

I hope I dont have to use the Viewer 2.0 for the future. 😦

I like it, I like it not..? New SL Marketplace.. my thoughts.

Usually I am one of these persons who dislike everything that is affected by changes. Or in short: I hate changes.
In almost the same manner it was pretty sure why I did freak out when heard that Xstreet SL will be transformed to something which is called Second Life Marketplace. Yea New Second Life Marketplace.

Indeed I was one person of many who worried about that. I thought why there is need for so much changes?

Today I updated some of my core products on the new marketplace. And after editing 3 products I started to acclimatize with the new way how to manage products there and so.

I must say that I now start to like the new design.. Yes me! The evil hater of all changes.. I like it now!?

Yea the way how I can edit all the products is pretty good. Guess its just a matter of habituation.

I like that you can link one product to another. Or link to a demo. This is good I thought and I use it now.

What makes me sad is the fact that they did remove this “Peoples who bought this product, bought these products too…” Feature. Im not sure but this was another good way to get some visitors.. yea visitors other creators as well.

But at least I am overall much more happy with it then in the past. Had already some sales but not much. Main sales still come from Xstreet SL. But when they close it down.. I hope those sales will be on the new Market too.

Just my “changed” thoughts on that.

Casino gambling in Second Life forbidden or not?

I did hear so often that Casino gamblin is forbidden in Second Life. Anyhow you can find tons of places via “search” which offer gambling.
Most of them have these mashines called Zyngo, Yango, Grngo, Devil B Gone, BuckNutty and lot of other stuff.

So here we come back to my question:
Are these game-mashines conform to the Linden Lab TOS?
I did hear about something like “If scripts and games depends on the skill of the player, they are allowed”. However I still can see a big luck factor on these mashines. I am really not sure if these games are based on the skills of the player who spend money for a round. Can someone clarifiy that to me?

Twitter App "twitterfeed.com" seems to be down?

My last few blog posts did not update to twitter. I usually did use the Twitter Application twitterfeed.com for this function. But this Service seems to be down now? Anybody knows something? Any good and trustful alternatives out there? Im not sure whats happened to this Service and Domain.

Freelance Job or controlled by SL Agency?

Time by time I offer translation service in Second Life. I did write an article about it here on my Second Life Blog a few weeks ago. I speak native german yea because I am german and for me its not a problem to understand english very well. I wouldn´t say that I can write perfect in english.. No I think I cant.. but I do understand english very very well. In this fact was helping me in the past to translate english content to german in the past. I did complete several offers.

So there is a translation agency in Second Life which is called “Babel Translations”. Yesterday the owner did notice that I advertise my service in several forums I think. Later then he was contacting me and asked me if I would be interested to work for his SL company.

I had my concerns. If I am controlled by a SL Agency, I will lose my flexibility and self-determination. But he said then “No you wont..” and gave me several reasons for that. He said I would be paid more then I get with my own service. All it sounds well for me. Anyway I did need one day to think about it. I do so even if there is a bigger decission.

I mean I own a Mall in Second Life.. I am Creator in Second Life.. and then employee of an Agency?
How I said I had my concerns.. I would like it if I can decide about my own time. But he said I can.

Ok thought about it one day now and I think I will give it a try. Maybe its fun to work in a team instead of the situation before. I will see.

But first I need to wait for an answer now.. if he is still interested. Maybe I will blog again about it. But all seems to be clear right now.

Second Life and how to find a needle in a haystack?!

Hi all. You maybe ask whats going on with this blog post right?

Today I did try to find the needle in a haystack.. no no.. I did try to find a special kind of fashion in Second Life.
I am bored and I thought its time to start another shopping tour. My mission was to find these special flower power, hippie and 60´s fashion for female avatars. You maybe know what I mean.. these special robes and alice bands which these females did wear at woodstock and so. Yes I talk about this crazy time in the past.

In my opinion this is powerful colorful fashion which I really like. So when I was in a Second Life music club today, we did listen some of these 60´s sounds and this is why I came to the idea to go shopping for such  a fashion.

So what about the needle? Did I find it?

No sadly no.. How I said.. it was like in a haystack. I didnt have succes. Try to find a shop in Second Life which is specialized to this kind of fashion. Its a pretty hard mission. I didnt have success so that I think this must be a pretty great niche in Second Life.

Do you have any suggestion where I need to search for this fashion? Every suggestion would be appreciated.

I hope I will find what I am looking for.

For today I give up.

Poll: Viewer 2.0, Emerald Viewer or others?

I did create a Poll.

The question is what kind of Viewer do you use for Second Life? Viewer 2.0? Emerald Viewer? Or other Viewers?

It would be very appreciated if you join this Poll. You can join the Poll here:

Is Midnight Mania out?

Well ussualy I often did put new stuff on my midnight mania boars. Today I did it again. Its great because you can ussualy share some freebie and give it to the peoples. As reward you get some good traffic to your mall.

However since a few weeks I dont get peoples in to my midnight mania board. Today for example I postet with my alt in 25 midnight mania groups that i have new stuff on the midnight mania board. But nothing happens.

Nobody did arrive.

SO do you all have the same experience? I would like to know that. Feel free to drop me a comment under this article.

Because I have the feeling that the midnigh mania hype has an end now. Is it out now? This is the question.
