Today I know games aren´t expansive anymore. I complained sometime ago to a friend that they would be, but he answered that this would not be true and explained it to me. I realized he is right. Now, he did write a set of articles and how he got to a big collection of games without huge costs. I really suggest to read the articles as it is basically what he explained me.
He told me that EA sometimes has special bargains in the store. The way to be informed is to subscribe to the EA blog but it is explained in his article. But does not offer good deals very often, at least not so often like Steam. You can find game deals pretty often on Steam and they do offer not only old games but also very popular games. And then he told me that Gamers Gate has awesome game deals quite often too and you can even seek for Steam activation keys in their store. And if that is not enough, he talked also about additional strategies to find super game deals.
You know, if you are not much informed like my friend, you will probably pay that much for games like I did in the past. But with his tips I am now a bargain hunter for games too. I don´t really need the games soon as they come out. I grown up and I am rather casual gamer but it´s possible to get the games cheaper and that not too late. Sure, they won´t be price reduced on the day when they are released but they probably will cost less months later and if you are informed, then you can make some good deals like 75% off and so.
He was right, with a little bit patience you can get many games to a quarter or less of the price they did cost earlier. Is this game less interesting if you get it weeks or months later? If you are like me, then you probably say “no!”. It´s not bad if you get the game for example three months later but for a good price, as there will be still many people who use the multiplayer mode and if you are only interested in single player, you probably won´t take much care about this aspect anyway. You must also consider that it will take a lot of time until a sequel is released, so that there is still enough time to enjoy the multiplayer mode with people from all around the world.
I decided to wait a little bit until I grab a game but I will pay less and otherwise it won´t affect me much. I simply get it for less and that is somewhat cool because I can own way more games than before without much more costs. This was not possible before. You might think about this too.
Markus Persson said this Week on the GDC 2011 “Piracy is not a theft” reported by Edge Online.
He said: “If you steal a car, the original is lost. If you copy a game, there are simply more of them in the world.” and “There is no such thing as a lost sale. Is a bad review a lost sale? What about a missed ship date?”
Persson’s advice is to “make a game last longer than a week” and to “treat game development as a service”. I think it is true if we take World of Warcraft or any other MMO as an example.
“You can’t pirate an online account,” he truth. I think this is not complete true.. There are already tons Pirare Servers for World of Warcraft and other MMO´s available.. in fact you could download a ripped copy of World of Warcraft and join one of the illegal Servers. But it wouldnt be a real Account from Blizzard Servers and thats why Markus Persson is true with this argument. And..
If Game-Companys offer constant content updates, Quality and a good service.. and if you need an online Account to enjoy this service… the Topic of Software Piracy gets irrelevant. You wont get those great content updates on a pirate software and if, then these updates will be very late. So if you want quality you will join the real Servers of Blizzard and pay for the service. And thats why legal Servers are more popular then illegal ones.
So the question is true… Is Software Piracy still a topic for those companys? I dont think so. For companys who offer games which arent account-tied, software piracy might be still a big deal. So “make a game last longer than a week”, “treat game development as a service” and “You can’t pirate an online account,” is a good advice. But I think most Companys learned it already.
Here is the list of my top five favorite games I usually love and play:
1. World of Warcraft ( For me this game is pretty relaxing and i can immerse in this world.. all my friends play it so I do too.)
2. Second Life (I love the creativity of all the peoples there.. I also like to be creative by my self there..)
3. Civilization IV (My brother did show me this game.. since then I install it from time to time and play some rounds!)
4. Battlefield 2 (yea my friends coerced me to play but today I love it and now we wait for Battlefield 3)
5. The Sims 3 (This game can be fun.. create your family and create your house.. I can spend hours with this game!)
How looks your top five and why do you play these games?
EDIT and Update: System Requirements are now really official revealed: Click here – Battlefield 3 System Requirments
Ok the heading of the blogpost is a lie. In fact the System Requirements for Battlefield 3 aren´t revealed now and that is my problem!
Long time ago I did play Battlefield 2 with all my friends but after that time we had a huge brake with ego shooter´s because we did play World of Warcaft most of our time then.
But few days ago I did get a phone call from one of my old friends and BF2 clan members.. he said “Hey cutie.. did you hear about BF 3 which will be released soon at autumn 2011?”…
He did continue.. “I did speak with all our old clan mates and most of them will play BF 3 because it wont be similar like that crap Bad Company 2.. it will be a real sequel of BF 2 and BF 2142!”
I must admit he infected me with his euphorias about the coming Battlefield 3.
Ok so I checked the internet if there are any System Requirements revealed but in fact they arent revealed yet. All what we know is that it will use the Frostbite 2 Engine.
So now I am not sure what to do.. here is my hardware equipment I use at the moment:
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.0GHz Dual-Core Prozessor PiB Sockel AM2 2x1024kByte L2-Cache 1000MHz FSB
RAM: Corsair TwinX 2 x 2GB CL5 with 5-5-5-18 XMS DDR2-800 RAM (4gb)
Videocard: NVIDIA GeForce Gainward GTS 250 with 512 mb
Mainboard: Gigabyte M56S-S3
OS: Windows 7
So I am not sure if this will be enough. Should I upgrade to a better videocard? I also could upgrade my 4gb Ram to 8gb Ram? I dont know if those games use 8gb.. Im not sure if this will be an improvement.
If I would need a new CPU.. Then I can buy a new mainboard because I cant use higher CPU`s then this with my mainboard.. Oh and if I would need a new mainboard.. then I also need new DDR3 Ram and that would cost me a lot all together.
So thats why I hope that upgrading will do it! Whats your opinion or suggestion? And what do you think will Battlefield 3 require? I would be happy if you leave a comment here. 🙂
EDIT: Since I was able to start the BETA of Battlefield 3, I can tell you that the game works on my system very very well without performance issues. The only change on my system is that I bought a Gainward GTX 570 Phantom. No FPS Problems. BF3 is running smooth on my system.
So yesterday in the afternoon Amazon did deliver my World of Warcraft Cataclysm and finaly I was able to play the whole night! Hell.. that was fun! So this blogpost will be a really shot one because of my World of Warcraft addiction… 😛 I cant write a big blogpost about it.. there is really to much to do in Cataclysm and thats why I will start the game in the next minutes,
All I can say is thtat I already reached Level 81 and Im not far away from Level 82. I made round about one and a half Level yesterday. But you know what? Some peoples already reached the Levelcap 85 in 6 hours! Are they crazy? How do they do that? However,.. I do not want that stress while gaming. I take my time and enjoy the whole enviroment. Why should I play it like a race? There is just to much new stuff to visit and to explore. I want to enjoy it with time.
Ok but as I said.. I need to go back to World of Warcraft ingame now. So this blogpost is a short one.
I am still waiting for World of Warcraft Cataclysm. The Package arrived in Neumünster which is not to far away from my Hometown. I think 60km. So I think it will be delivered in the next hours for sure. Im excited and cant wait. Just like a little child! I must admit that I had more luck with Wrath of the Lich King. That time they delivered it one day before the Expansion Servers opens. But this time with Cataclysm my Package come a little bit late. However.. finaly I am sure I can play it today in the afternoon.
Found a Blogpost of a EA employee who will be dismissed from Bioware Mythic during the next round of layoffs EA coming this November. Im not sure if it is true what this person is writing but at least lots of his words sounds true in my opinion.
Here you can read on: Why Warhammer failed
Today I´ve got an Email that the World of Warcraft Expansion called Cataclysm will be released on 7th December this Year. I talked already with some friends and everybody will play that game for a period of some month or maybe more. We even did play World of Warcraft but lately it became extremely bored for me as I had already all what I can get for my Character and anyhow I did see everything ingame. But with Cataclysm there are lot of changes incoming which means that it wont be bored for me anymore. It will be a new adventure for me and much fun to play again with my friends from Germany.
I will bring my lovely and evil Horde Icemage (Bloodelve) which I play already since over 3 Years, to level 85.When we reach the Levelcap, we probably will once again play “Player versus Player” most of our time. Every now and then we will visit Raids too. Thats our gameplay procedure in short.
Anyhow I like all the teamplay in World of Warcraft. Its a game which can bring lot of fun if you play it with your real life friends. But I also did meet new Peoples in this game.
And what I really like, is the fact that this time when I will play World of Warcraft, will give me new creativity and ideas so that I can come back to Second Life when World of Warcraft Cataclysm starts to get bored. Backwards it is the same. This is how I get my variety.
Second Life alone cant occupy me a complete Year. World of Warcraft cant do that too. Rotational, both give me variety.
So yea… it might be that I will write about my adventures in World of Warcraft in December too. I even thought about why I only blog about Second Life when I have so much more other activitys as well? Might be that I write about other topics as well in the future. But I am not sure at this point.
So what about you? Have you ever played World of Warcraft? Do you still play? Will you hold a Second Life brake when Cataclysm is released? Feel free to comment here.
